The Thamud tribe denied the Noble Messengers. 141 Their brother Salih asked them, "Why do you not fear God? 142 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 143 So fear God and follow me. 144 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in this, 146 in the midst of gardens and fountains, 147 And green crops (fields etc.) and date-palms with soft spadix. 148 Though ye hew out dwellings in the mountain, being skilful? 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 And obey not the command of the extravagant. 151 who corrupt in the earth, and do not reform' 152 They said: "Surely you are deluded. 153 You are naught but a mortal like ourselves; so bring a sign if you are one of the truthful. 154 He said, “This is the she-camel – one day shall be her turn to drink, and on the other appointed day, shall be your turn.” 155 and do not touch her with malice so that there seize you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 So the retribution came on them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 158 And lo! thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
