The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. These are verses of the Scripture and a plain Reading. 1 Perhaps those who disbelieve will wish that they had been Muslims. 2 leave them to eat, and to take their joy, and to be bemused by hope; certainly they will soon know! 3 And We have not destroyed a town but there was therefor a decree known. 4 No people can outstrip the term for its destruction nor can it delay it. 5 And they say, "O you upon whom the message has been sent down, indeed you are mad. 6 Why dost thou not bring the angels unto us, if thou speakest truly?' 7 We do not send down the angels except with truth; and the disbelievers would not then be reprieved. 8 We have sent down this Exposition, and We will guard it. 9 And We had certainly sent [messengers] before you, [O Muhammad], among the sects of the former peoples. 10 But never came a messenger to them but they mocked him. 11 This is how We cause the hearts of the guilty ones to behave. 12 They believe not therein, though the example of the men of old hath gone before. 13 If We opened a gate in the heaven and they kept ascending through it, 14 they would surely have said, "It is only our eyes that are spellbound! Nay, we have been bewitched! 15
