And certainly We sent to Samood their brother Salih, saying: Serve Allah; and lo! they became two sects quarrelling with each other. 45 He said: O my people! wherefore seek ye to hasten the evil before the good? Wherefore ask ye not forgiveness of Allah, that haply ye may be shewn mercy. 46 They said: "We augur ill omen from you and those with you." He said: "Your ill omen is with Allah; nay, but you are a people that are being tested." 47 There were nine tribes in the city spreading evil without any reform in the land. 48 they said, 'Swear you, one to another, by God, "We will attack him and his family by night, then we will tell his protector, We were not witnesses of the destruction of his family; and assuredly we are truthful men."' 49 They hatched up the plot; We also planned without their knowledge. 50 Then see how was the end of their plot! Verily! We destroyed them and their nation, all together. 51 So those are their houses fallen down because they were unjust, most surely there is a sign in this for a people who know. 52 We deliver those who believe and take heed for themselves. 53 And Lot, he said to his nation: 'Do you commit indecencies with your eyes open! 54 Do you approach men lustfully instead of women! No, you are an ignorant nation' 55 ۞ But his people's only answer was this: "Expel [Lot and] Lot's followers from your township! Verily, they are folk who make themselves out to be pure!" 56 We saved (Lot) and his family except his wife who was destined to remain behind. 57 And We rained upon them a rain [of stones], and evil was the rain of those who were warned. 58
