The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night, when it envelops, 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 As for him who gave out his wealth (for Allah's sake) and abstained (from disobeying Him), 5 and affirmed the Truth of goodness: 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 We will make smooth for him the path for evil; 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 But save him who fears 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
