The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise and warn, 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 And pollution shun. 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 May he be condemned! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then he looked round; 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
