The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 You will become three categories: 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And those foremost [(in Islamic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islam,] will be foremost (in Paradise). 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 and continuous shade, 30 and waters gushing, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And exalted thrones. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 And made them virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
