The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ What are they questioning each other about? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 on which they [so utterly] disagree. 3 Nay! they shall soon come to know 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 And made sleep for you to rest, 9 And We made the night to be a covering, 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 and have placed [therein the sun,] a lamp full of blazing splendour. 13 and sent down heavy rains from the clouds 14 In order to produce grain and plants with it. 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 the Day that the Horn is blown, and you shall come in crowds 18 And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates, 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 They will abide therein for ages. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink, 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 a meet requital [for their sins]! 26 For that they used not to fear any account (for their deeds), 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 Taste therefore. We shall not increase you in aught but torment. 30

كيف تعمل منظومة تمارين الحفظ؟ عند أدنى مستوى 0، تكون كل الكلمات ظاهرة. بينما يُخفي أعلى مستوى 9 كل الكلمات. فكيف تعمل المستويات المتوسطة، مثل 3، على سبيل المثال؟ قد تعتقد بأن المنظومة تخفي 3 من كل تسع كلمات بدقة. ليس تماما! في المستوى 3، لكل كلمة فرصة اختفاء بنسبة 3 من 9، و6 من 9 لتكون ظاهرة. بمعنى آخر، من الممكن، ولكن باحتمال شبة معدوم، أن تكون جميع كلمات المستوى 3 مخفية، أو أن تكون جميعها ظاهرة! وكذلك أيضًا، ففي المستويات المتوسطة، وبما يتناسب مع مستوى الصعوبة، يمكن أن تكون المخابئ غير كاملة أو شفافة جزئيًا بحيث تظهر الكلمات جزئيًا تحتها.
How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
