The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The Last Hour draws near and the moon is split asunder. 1 And if they behold a sign, they turn away and say: magic continuous 2 And they denied and followed their inclinations. But for every matter is a [time of] settlement. 3 They have certainly received the kind of news in which there is a lesson and strong words of wisdom, 4 The pinnacle of wisdom – so how will the Heralds of warning provide any benefit? 5 Therefore, turn away from them. On the Day when the Caller summons them to a terrible thing, 6 with downcast eyes they shall come out of their graves, as if they were locusts milling about 7 Hastening toward the summoner; the disbelievers say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ Before them the people of Nuh rejected, so they rejected Our servant and called (him) mad, and he was driven away. 9 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “I am overpowered, therefore avenge me.” 10 Then We opened the gates of the heaven with rain pouring down 11 And caused the earth to burst with springs, and the waters met for a matter already predestined. 12 And We carried him on a (ship) made of planks and nails, 13 and it floated under Our eyes: a recompense for him who had been rejected with ingratitude. 14 And verily We left it as a token; but is there any that remembereth? 15 So how did My punishment turn out, and My threats? 16 We have made the Koran easy to remember, is there any that will remember! 17 The 'Ad (people) (too) rejected (Truth): then how terrible was My Penalty and My Warning? 18 Surely We sent on them a tornado in a day of bitter ill-luck 19 and snatched people up as though they were stumps of uprooted palmtrees. 20 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 21 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran: is there anyone who would receive admonition? 22
