Have you not seen those who dispute with respect to the communications of Allah: how are they turned away? 69 Those who deny the Scripture and that wherewith We send Our messengers. But they will come to know, 70 when fetters will be placed around their necks and chains will drag them 71 and are dragged into burning despair, and in the end become fuel for the fire [of hell]. 72 It will then be asked of them: 'Where are those whom you associated, 73 Beside Allah? They will say: they have failed us; aye! we have not been calling upon aught afore. Thus doth Allah lead the infidels astray. 74 "That was because ye were wont to rejoice on the earth in things other than the Truth, and that ye were wont to be insolent. 75 Enter ye the gates of Hell as abiders therein. Hapless is the abode of the stiff-necked. 76 So be patient, surely the promise of Allah is true. So should We make you see part of what We threaten them with, or should We cause you to die, to Us shall they be returned. 77 Indeed We sent many Messengers before you: of them there are some whose account We have narrated to you and there are others whose account We have not narrated to you. It did not lie in any Messenger's power to bring any Sign except with Allah's leave. So when Allah's decree came, the matter was decided with justice, and those steeped in error courted utter loss, then and there. 78
