The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the star when it plunges, 1 Your companion (Muhammad SAW) has neither gone astray nor has erred. 2 And he does not say anything by his own desire. 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, 9 then revealed to his servant that he revealed. 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass, 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 And Manat the other third? 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. 25
