I told them, "Messengers, eat from the pure things and act righteously; I know all that you do. 51 And verily this Brotherhood of yours is a single Brotherhood, and I am your Lord and Cherisher: therefore fear Me (and no other). 52 But they (mankind) have broken their religion among them into sects, each group rejoicing in its tenets. 53 So leave them in their confusion for a time. 54 Deem they that in the wealth and sons wherewith We enlarge them. 55 We provide them with the means of competing with each other in virtuous deeds, but they do not realize this. 56 Verily those who live in awe for fear of their Lord; 57 And those who in the signs of their Lord do believe. 58 And those who join not anyone (in worship) as partners with their Lord; 59 And those who give that which they give with hearts afraid because they are about to return unto their Lord, 60 These hasten to good things and they are foremost in (attaining) them. 61 We do not impose on any soul what is beyond its capacity. We have the Book which speaks the truth and no injustice will be done to it. 62 But their hearts are in confused ignorance of this; and there are, besides that, deeds of theirs, which they will (continue) to do,- 63 until - after We shall have taken to task, through suffering, those from among them who [now] are lost in the pursuit of pleasures - they cry out in [belated] supplication. 64 (It will be said): "Groan not in supplication this day: for ye shall certainly not be helped by Us. 65 My verses had already been recited to you, but you were turning back on your heels 66 [and,] impelled by your arrogance, you would talk senselessly far into the night." 67 Is it then that they do not ponder over what is said, or is it that there has come to them that which did not come to their fathers of old? 68 Or did they not know their Messenger, so they are toward him disacknowledging? 69 Or do they say: "There is madness in him"? Nay, he has brought them the truth - and the truth do most of them detest! 70 But if the truth were in accord with their own likes and dislikes, the heavens and the earth would surely have fallen into ruin, and all that lives in them [would long ago have perished]! Nay, [in this divine writ] We have conveyed unto them all that they ought to bear in mind: and from this their reminder they [heedlessly] turn away! 71 Or is it that you ask them a recompense? But the recompense of your Lord is best, and He is the best of those who provide sustenance. 72 And verily thou! thou callest them unto a Path straight. 73 but those who do not believe in the Hereafter are ever prone to deviate from the Right Way. 74 ۞ If We had mercy on them and removed the distress which is on them, they would obstinately persist in their transgression, wandering in distraction to and fro. 75 And indeed We grasped them with punishment, so neither did they submit themselves to their Lord, nor do they cry humbly. 76 until, when We open against them a door of terrible chastisement, lo, they are sore confounded at it. 77
