The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it setteth. 1 your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 taught by One who is Stern in power. 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah – see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 (This was) when the lote-tree was covered with that which covered it. 16 His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. 17 Indeed he (Muhammad SAW) did see, of the Greatest Signs, of his Lord (Allah). 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? 20 Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. 25
