The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 taught by One who is Stern in power. 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; 16 The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 and the third one, Manat? -- 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
