The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 like hidden pearls, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 and serried acacias, 29 and extended shade, 30 and outpoured waters, 31 and fruits abounding 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 And couches raised up. 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 So made them as maidens. 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 for those on the Right, 38
