He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 you attend to him, 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 exalted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and pious. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 wife and sons, 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
