The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 Reclining face to face. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 and amid the extended shade 30 And water poured out 31 and abundant fruit, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
