Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 when he said to his father and his people, 'What do you serve?' 70 They said: We worship idols, so we shall be their votaries. 71 He said: "Do they listen to you when ye call (on them)?" 72 Or, benefit they you or hurt they you? 73 They said, 'Nay, but we found our fathers so doing.' 74 Abraham said, "Have you really thought about what you have been worshipping, 75 "You and your ancient fathers? 76 Indeed, they are enemies to me, except the Lord of the worlds, 77 "Who created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 "And when I am ill, it is He Who cures me; 80 who makes me to die, then gives me life, 81 “And the One Who, upon Whom I pin my hopes, will forgive me my mistakes on the Day of Judgement.” 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 and grant me the power to convey the truth unto those who will come after me, 84 and place me among those who shall inherit the garden of bliss! 85 Forgive my father. He has gone astray. 86 "And let me not be in disgrace on the Day when (men) will be raised up;- 87 the day when neither wealth nor sons shall profit 88 Unless it be he, who shall bring unto Allah a whole heart, 89 And the Garden shall be brought nigh to the God-fearing. 90 And Hellfire will be brought forth for the deviators, 91 And it will be said unto them: Where is (all) that ye used to worship 92 Other than God? Can they save you or even save themselves?" 93 Then they shall be hurled therein, they and the seduced ones. 94 and the hosts of Iblis - all together. 95 "Quarrelling therein with each other, 96 "By God, we were most obviously astray 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Universe. 98 "'And our seducers were only those who were steeped in guilt. 99 so now we have no intercessors, 100 no caring friend. 101 "'Now if we only had a chance of return we shall truly be of those who believe!'" 102 Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers! 103 surely, your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 104
