Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the dawn; 1 And the ten nights, 2 and the even and the odd, 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 Verily thy Lord is in an ambuscade, 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 And His bonds will be such as none other can bind. 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
