The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
WOE UNTO THOSE who give short measure: 1 those who demand a full measure from others 2 but who, when they measure or weigh for others, give less than their due. 3 Do they not know that they are bound to be raised from the dead 4 On a Great Day, 5 the Day when people will stand before the Lord of the Worlds? 6 Indeed! The record of the wicked is in the Sijjin -- 7 and what could make you understand what the Sijjin is? -- 8 It is [their destination recorded in] a register inscribed. 9 Woe, on that Day, to those who reject, 10 Who give the lie to the day of judgment. 11 And none will deny it, except every transgressor, rebel. 12 Who, when thou readest unto him Our revelations, saith: (Mere) fables of the men of old. 13 Nay! But on their hearts is the Ran (covering of sins and evil deeds) which they used to earn. 14 Nay! most surely they shall on that day be debarred from their Lord. 15 Then, verily they will indeed enter and taste the burning flame of Hell. 16 They will then be told: "This is what you had denied." 17 But, the record of the righteous is [preserved] in the 'Illiyyin -- 18 And what will make you know what the highest Iliyin is? 19 The record is a sealed text. 20 Witnessed by those who are honoured. 21 Verily, Al-Abrar (the pious who fear Allah and avoid evil) will be in delight (Paradise). 22 Reclining on couches, looking on. 23 You shall see upon their faces the glow of bliss. 24 Their thirst will be slaked with Pure Wine sealed: 25 whose seal is musk – so let all aspirants aspire after that – 26 And the admixture of it is a water of Tasnim, 27 A fountain from which only they who are honoured drink. 28 Surely they who are guilty used to laugh at those who believe. 29 And wink one to another when they passed them; 30 And when they returned to their own followers they returned exulting. 31 And when they saw them, they said: "Verily! These have indeed gone astray!" 32 Yet they were not sent as guardians over them. 33 But on this Day the believers will laugh at the unbelievers 34 as they sit on couches, gazing around. 35 Have the disbelievers [not] been rewarded [this Day] for what they used to do? 36
