The Prophets (Al-Anbyaa')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ The people's day of reckoning is drawing closer, yet they are heedlessly neglectful. 1 Never does a new reminder come to them from their Lord but they listen to it with dalliance. 2 Their hearts toying as with trifles. The wrong-doers conceal their private counsels, (saying), "Is this (one) more than a man like yourselves? Will ye go to witchcraft with your eyes open?" 3 He said: "My Lord knows well all that is spoken in the heavens and the earth. He is All-Hearing, All- Knowing." 4 But they say, "[The revelation is but] a mixture of false dreams; rather, he has invented it; rather, he is a poet. So let him bring us a sign just as the previous [messengers] were sent [with miracles]." 5 Not a township believed of those which We destroyed before them (though We sent them portents): would they then believe? 6 And We did not send (Prophets) before you except men, to whom We sent divine revelations – therefore, O people, ask the people of knowledge if you do not know. 7 We did not give them bodies that needed no food, nor were they to live forever. 8 Then We fulfilled the promise We had made to them: We rescued them and those whom We wished, and We destroyed those who exceeded all bounds. 9 Now We have sent down to you a Book wherein is your Remembrance; will you not understand? 10
