The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 And the day resplendent 2 And by oath of the One Who created the male and the female. 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 for those who spend for the cause of God, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 So We will very soon provide him hardship. 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 None except the most wicked will enter it. 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 The pious ones will be safe from this fire 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 They do not expect any reward 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
