Verily We created you and gave you form and shape, and ordered the angels to bow before Adam in homage; and they all bowed but Iblis who was not among those who bowed. 11 [Allah] said, "What prevented you from prostrating when I commanded you?" [Satan] said, "I am better than him. You created me from fire and created him from clay." 12 Allah said: then get thee down from hence; not for thee is it to be stiff-necked herein. So go thou forth; verily thou art of the abject ones. 13 Said he, 'Respite me till the day they shall be raised.' 14 The Lord told him, "We will grant you this respite." 15 Satan said: 'Since You have led me astray, I shall surely sit in ambush for them on Your Straight Path. 16 And I shall come upon them from the front and behind, right and left; and You will not find among them many who would give thanks." 17 He said, "Get out of here, despised, and rejected! I shall fill Hell with all of those who follow you." 18 'O Adam, inherit, thou and thy wife, the Garden, and eat of where you will, but come not nigh this tree, lest you be of the evildoers.' 19 Thereupon Satan whispered unto the two with a view to making them conscious of their nakedness, of which [hitherto] they had been unaware; and he said: "Your Sustainer has but forbidden you this tree lest you two become [as] angels, or lest you live forever." 20 And he swore [by Allah] to them, "Indeed, I am to you from among the sincere advisors." 21 So he made them fall, through deception. And when they tasted of the tree, their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to fasten together over themselves from the leaves of Paradise. And their Lord called to them, "Did I not forbid you from that tree and tell you that Satan is to you a clear enemy?" 22 They said: "Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If You forgive us not, and bestow not upon us Your Mercy, we shall certainly be of the losers." 23 Allah said: 'Go down; you are enemies one of the other. For you there is dwelling and provision on the earth for a while.' 24 He said, "Therein you will live, and therein you will die, and from it you will be brought forth." 25
