The nobles of Pharaoh said: "He surely is a clever magician. 109 He would drive you forth from your land; so what is it that ye enjoin? 110 They said, "Postpone [the matter of] him and his brother and send among the cities gatherers 111 "That they bring up to you all well-versed sorcerers." 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh and asked, "Shall we have a reward, if we should prevail?" 113 Pharaoh replied, "Certainly, and you shall also become my courtiers." 114 They said, 'Moses, wilt thou cast, or shall we be the casters?' 115 'Throw' he replied. And when they threw, they bewitched the people's eyes and terrified them, and produced great sorcery. 116 And [then] We inspired Moses, "Throw down thy staff!" - and lo! it swallowed up all their deceptions: 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed, and that which they had brought vanished. 118 Thus there and then they were vanquished and overthrown, humiliated. 119 The sorcerers fell to the ground in homage, 120 Crying: We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 121 The Lord of Musa and Harun. 122 Fir'awn said: believed ye in him ere I have given you leave? Verily this is a plot ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive forth the people thereof. So presently ye shall know. 123 "Surely, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then I will crucify you all." 124 They said: "For us, We are but sent back unto our Lord: 125 "And you take vengeance on us only because we believed in the Ayat (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs, etc.) of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience, and cause us to die as Muslims." 126
