The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said, "This is most surely a skillful magician, 109 who desires to expel you from your land; what do you command?' 110 Then they advised Pharaoh: 'Put off Moses and his brother for a while, and send forth heralds to your cities 111 Who will bring you every learned magician." 112 The sorcerers came to Pharaoh. They said: 'Shall we be rewarded if we are the winners' 113 Pharaoh replied: 'Certainly, and you shall be among those who are near to me.' 114 They said, 'Moses, wilt thou cast, or shall we be the casters?' 115 He said: Throw! And when they threw they cast a spell upon the people's eyes, and overawed them, and produced a mighty spell. 116 And We revealed to Moses: 'Cast thy staff!' And lo, it forthwith swallowed up their lying invention. 117 ۞ Thus was the Truth vindicated and that which they were doing was made vain. 118 Thus were they there defeated and brought low. 119 and the magicians flung themselves prostrate, 120 They said, 'We believe in the Lord of all Being, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron.' 122 Said Pharaoh, "You believed in him before I gave you permission. Indeed, this is a conspiracy which you conspired in the city to expel therefrom its people. But you are going to know. 123 "Be sure I will cut off your hands and your feet on apposite sides, and I will cause you all to die on the cross." 124 They answered: "We have (in any case) to go back to our Lord. 125 “And what did you dislike in us, except that we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us? Our Lord! Pour (bestow abundantly) patience on us, and bestow us death as Muslims.” 126
