The great ones among Pharaoh's people said: "Verily, this is indeed a sorcerer of great knowledge, 109 and said, "He wants to expel you from your land." They asked (others), " what is your opinion in the matter? 110 Others said: 'Put them off a while, he and his brother, and send forth to your cities gatherers 111 who should bring to you every skillful magician." 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh and asked, "Shall we have a reward, if we should prevail?" 113 Answered [Pharaoh]: "Yes; and verily, you shall be among those who are near unto me." 114 They said: O Musa! either thou cast down, or we shall be the ones to cast down. 115 He replied, "Throw yours first." Their great magic bewitched people's eyes and terrified them. 116 Then We directed Moses: 'Now you throw your rod.' And lo! it swallowed up all their false devices. 117 ۞ Thus the Truth prevailed and their false art was banished. 118 The magicians who were defeated on the spot and were proved to be worthless, 119 threw themselves down in prostration 120 and said, "We believe in the Lord of the Universe, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron!" 122 But Pharaoh said: "You have come to accept belief in Him without my permission! This surely is a plot you have hatched to expel the people from the land. You will soon come to know. 123 I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides; then I will surely crucify you all." 124 They said: "Verily, we are returning to our Lord. 125 "And you take vengeance on us only because we believed in the Ayat (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs, etc.) of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience, and cause us to die as Muslims." 126
