The chiefs of the people of Fir'awn said: verily this is a magician knowing. 109 Who wants to expel you from your land [through magic], so what do you instruct?" 110 They said, “Stop him and his brother, and send announcers to the cities to gather people.” 111 That they may bring to you every enchanter possessed of knowledge. 112 And the magicians came unto Fir'awn. They said: surely there is for us a reward if we are the overcomers. 113 He said: Yes, and you shall certainly be of those who are near (to me). 114 Then they said: 'O Moses, will you [first] throw your rod, or shall we throw?' 115 "You cast it first," answered Moses. When they cast their spell, they bewitched the eyes of the people and petrified them by conjuring up a great charm. 116 And We inspired to Moses, "Throw your staff," and at once it devoured what they were falsifying. 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed and what they had produced came to nothing: 118 So they were vanquished there, and they turned about, humbled. 119 And the wizards fell down prostrate, 120 Saying: "We believe in the Lord of the Worlds,- 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron. 122 Firon said: Do you believe in Him before I have given you permission? Surely this is a plot which you have secretly devised in this city, that you may turn out of it its people, but you shall know: 123 I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides; then I will surely crucify you all." 124 They said: verily unto our Lord we are turning. 125 Thou takest vengeance on us only forasmuch as we believed the tokens of our Lord when they came unto us. Our Lord! Vouchsafe unto us steadfastness and make us die as men who have surrendered (unto Thee). 126
