The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra'. These are the verses of the Book, and a Clear Qur'an. 1 How strongly the unbelievers will wish that they had been Muslims. 2 Leave them that they may eat and enjoy themselves and (that) hope may beguile them, for they will soon know. 3 And never have We destroyed any community [for its wrongdoing] unless a divine writ had [previously] been made known to it; 4 No nation can outstrip its term, nor do they put it back. 5 They say, "You to whom the Reminder [the Quran] has been sent down, you are surely possessed. 6 Why do you not bring down the angels upon us, if you are truthful?" 7 We do not send down angels without reason, and if the angels descend they would not get any respite! 8 Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian. 9 AND, INDEED, [O Prophet,] even before thy time did We send [Our apostles] unto communities of old 10 And never does a Noble Messenger come to them, but they mock at him. 11 Thus do We insert denial into the hearts of the criminals. 12 So, they will not believe in it: The example of former people is there. 13 Even if We open a door in the heavens and they ascend through it in broad daylight, 14 they would have said, "Our eyes are bewildered and we have been affected by magic." 15
