The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its heat and brightness, 1 and by the moon when she follows him, 2 and by the day as it displays the sun's glory, 3 By the night when it envelopeth it, 4 Consider the sky and its wondrous make, 5 And the earth and Him Who spread it, 6 By the soul, and That which shaped it 7 and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety: 8 prosperous is he who purified it, 9 And indeed he fails who corrupts his ownself (i.e. disobeys what Allah has ordered by rejecting the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism or by following polytheism, etc. or by doing every kind of evil wicked deeds). 10 TO [THIS] TRUTH gave the lie, in their overweening arrogance, [the tribe of] Thamud, 11 When the most unfortunate of them broke forth with 12 But the Messenger of Allah [Salih (Saleh)] said to them: "Be cautious! Fear the evil end. That is the she-camel of Allah! (Do not harm it) and bar it not from having its drink!" 13 But they belied him, and hamstrung her. So their Lord crushed them for their sin and leveled it (their village). 14 He does not fear the result (of their destruction). 15
