Man We fashioned from fermented clay dried tingling hard, 26 whereas the invisible beings We had created, [long] before that, out of the fire of scorching winds. 27 When your Lord said to the angels, "I will create the human being out of pure mud-moulded clay. 28 When I have shaped him, and breathed My spirit in him, fall you down, bowing before him!' 29 All the angels prostrated before Adam 30 save Iblis: he refused to be among those who prostrated themselves. 31 (Allah) said: "O Iblis (Satan)! What is your reason for not being among the prostrators?" 32 He said it was not for me that I should prostrate myself unto a human being whom Thou hast created from ringing clay of loam moulded. 33 (Allah) said: "Then, get out from here, for verily, you are Rajim (an outcast or a cursed one)." [Tafsir At-Tabari] 34 and will be subjected to condemnation until the Day of Judgment." 35 He said: 'My Lord, reprieve me till the Day they are raised' 36 Allah said: verily then thou art of the respited: 37 till the Day the time whereof is known [to Me alone]." 38 He said: My Lord! because Thou hast made life evil to me, I will certainly make (evil) fair-seeming to them on earth, and I will certainly cause them all to deviate 39 Except the chosen ones among Your creatures." 40 Allah said: this is the path leading unto Me straight. 41 Surely, you shall have no power over My true servants, except those misguided ones who choose to follow you. 42 Surely Hell is the promised place for all of them." 43 There are seven gates in it, and to each gate a portion of them has been allotted. 44
