Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Kaf, Ha, Ya, 'Ayn, Sad. 1 A mention of the mercy of thy Lord unto His servant Zachariah. 2 When he called out to his Sustainer in the secrecy of his heart, 3 He said: "Lord! My bones have grown feeble and my head is glistening with age; yet, never have my prayers to You, my Lord, been unfruitful. 4 And now I fear my kinsfolk after I am gone; and my wife is barren. So give me, from Thee, a kinsman 5 Who will be heir to me, and heir to the house of Jacob; and make him obedient to You, O Lord." 6 'O Zachariah, We give you good tidings of a son, and he shall be called John (Yahya); a name We have never given before' 7 He said: O my Lord! when shall I have a son, and my wife is barren, and I myself have reached indeed the extreme degree of old age? 8 He said: So (it will be). Thy Lord saith: It is easy for Me, even as I created thee before, when thou wast naught. 9 He said, “My Lord, give me a sign”; He said, “Your token is that you will not speak to people for three nights, although in proper health.” 10 Then he came forth to his people from the sanctuary, and he beckoned unto them. hallow your Lord morning and evening. 11 We commanded John, Zachariah's son, to follow the guidance of the Lord with due steadfastness. We gave knowledge and wisdom to John during his childhood. 12 And affection from Us and purity, and he was fearing of Allah 13 And was good to his parents and not forceful, nor disobedient. 14 And Peace be unto him the day he was born and the day he dieth and the day he will be raised up alive. 15
