'Ad (people) belied the Messengers. 123 when their brother Hud said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 124 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 125 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no hire therefor: my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 Erect palaces (thinking) that you will live for ever, 129 When you lay hands upon anyone, you do so as tyrants. 130 "Now fear Allah, and obey me. 131 fear Him who has aided you with all that you know -- 132 "He has aided you with cattle and children. 133 And gardens and fountains; 134 Surely I fear for you the chastisement of a grievous day 135 They replied: "It is all the same for us whether you admonish us or not. 136 “This is nothing but the tradition of former people.” 137 "And we are not the ones to receive Pains and Penalties!" 138 In response they denied him – We therefore destroyed them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 139 Verily your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 140
