The Prophets (Al-Anbyaa')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ The time of people's reckoning has drawn near, and yet they turn aside in heedlessness. 1 Whenever a new revelation comes to them from their Lord, they listen to it in a playful manner, 2 With their hearts distracted. And those who do wrong conceal their private conversation, [saying], "Is this [Prophet] except a human being like you? So would you approach magic while you are aware [of it]?" 3 He says: 'My Lord knows what is said in the heavens and the earth, and He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing.' 4 "Nay," they say: "[Muhammad propounds] the most involved and confusing of dreams!" "Nay, but he has invented [all] this!" - "Nay, but he is [only] a poet!" - [and,] "Let him, then, come unto us with a miracle, just as those [prophets] of old were sent [with miracles]?" 5 Not a [single] city which We destroyed believed before them, so will they believe? 6 And We did not send before you any but men to whom We sent revelation, so ask the followers of the reminder if you do not 7 And We did not create them without bodies so they would not eat food – nor that they abide on earth forever. 8 Then We fulfilled the promise We had made to them: We rescued them and those whom We wished, and We destroyed those who exceeded all bounds. 9 We have revealed a Book to you which is admonition for you. Will you not then understand? 10
