۞ We had earlier given Abraham true direction, for We knew him well. 51 when he said unto his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so intensely devoted?" 52 They answered: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: 'Truly, you and your fathers are in clear error' 54 They said, "Have you brought us the Truth, or are you one of those who jest?" 55 He answered: "Nay, but your [true] Sustainer is the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth - He who has brought them into being: and I am one of those who bear witness to this [truth]!" 56 And, by God, I shall assuredly outwit your idols, after you have gone away turning your backs.' 57 So he broke them into pieces, except the chief of them, that haply they may return to it. 58 They said: Who hath done this to our gods? Surely it must be some evil-doer. 59 They said: We heard a youth speak of them, who is called Ibrahim. 60 They said: bring him then before the eyes of the people, haply they may bear witness. 61 They said: art thou the one who hath wrought this unto our gods, O Ibrahim? 62 He answered, "Rather this biggest one of them did it. Ask them, if they can speak." 63 So they turned to themselves and said, "Surely ye are the ones in the wrong!" 64 then they hung their heads, and said, "O Abraham! You know they cannot speak." 65 Said [Abraham]: "Do you then worship, instead of God, something that cannot benefit you in any way, nor harm you? 66 Uff to you and to what you worship instead of Allah. Then will you not use reason?" 67 They said: "Burn him and help your aliha (gods), if you will be doing." 68 We said: O fire! be thou cool and peace unto Ibrahim. 69 And they wished to set a snare for him, but We made them the greater losers. 70 for We saved him and Lot, [his brother's son, by guiding them] to the land which We have blessed for all times to come. 71 And We bestowed him Ishaq, and Yaqub the grandson; and We made all of them worthy of Our proximity. 72 And We made them leaders who guide by Our command, and We sent them the divine revelation to do good deeds and to keep the prayer established and to give charity; and they used to worship Us. 73 We bestowed upon Lot sound judgement and knowledge, and We delivered him from the city that was immersed in foul deeds. They were indeed a wicked people, exceedingly disobedient. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy. Verily he was of the righteous. 75
