۞ We gave Abraham aforetime his rectitude -- for We knew him -- 51 When he said unto his father and his folk: What are these images unto which ye pay devotion? 52 They said: We found our fathers worshipping them. 53 He said, "Indeed ye have been in manifest error - ye and your fathers." 54 They said: "Are you speaking in earnest, or only jesting?" 55 He said: "Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth which He created and to that I bear witness before you. 56 By Allah, I will certainly outwit your idols as soon as you have turned your backs and gone' 57 He broke all the idols into pieces, except the biggest among them so that perhaps people would refer to it. 58 They said: who hath wrought this to our gods? verily he is of the wrong-doers. 59 They said: "We heard a young man talking (against) them who is called Ibrahim (Abraham)." 60 "Bring him before the people," they said, "that they may bear witness." 61 (On Abraham's arrival) they said: "Abraham, are you he who has done this to our gods?" 62 He answered: "Nay, it was this one, the biggest of them, that did it: but ask them [yourselves] - provided they can speak!" 63 Then they thought and observed: "Surely you are yourselves unjust." 64 Thereafter they were made to turn over upon their heads, saying, assuredly thou knowest that they speak not. 65 He said: worship ye, then, beside Allah, that which profiteth you not at all, nor it hurteth you? 66 Fie upon you and that you serve apart from God! Do you not understand?' 67 They said, "Burn him and help your deities, if you are resolved to do something." 68 'O Fire' We said, 'be coolness and safety for Abraham' 69 And they wanted to harm him, but We made them the worst losers. 70 We saved him and Lot, and brought them to the land which We had blessed for all the worlds. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and [Isaac's son] Jacob as an additional gift and caused all of them to be righteous men, 72 We made them leaders who guided people by Our command. We revealed to them the doing of good, observance of prayer and the giving of alms and Us alone did they worship. 73 And Lut! We vouchsafed unto him judgment and knowledge, and We delivered him out of the city which had been working foul deeds; verily they were a people evil, wicked. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy. Indeed, he was of the righteous. 75
