۞ Before this We gave Abraham his virtue, for We knew him. 51 Abraham asked his father and his people, "What are these statues which you worship?" 52 They answered: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said, “Indeed you all – you and your forefathers – were in open error.” 54 They said: hast thou come unto us with the truth, or art thou of those who sport? 55 He said: Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them; and I am of those who testify unto that. 56 "And by Allah, I have a plan for your idols - after ye go away and turn your backs".. 57 And then he broke those [idols] to pieces, [all] save the biggest of them, so that they might [be able to] turn to it. 58 They asked (on return): "Who has done this to our gods? He is surely a mischief-monger." 59 They said: We heard a youth speak of them, who is called Ibrahim. 60 Said they: Then bring him before the eyes of the people, perhaps they may bear witness. 61 They said, "Have you done this to our gods, O Abraham?" 62 'No' he replied. 'It was their great one amongst them that did it. Ask them, if they are able to speak' 63 So they returned to [blaming] themselves and said [to each other], "Indeed, you are the wrongdoers." 64 Thereafter they were made to turn over upon their heads, saying, assuredly thou knowest that they speak not. 65 He said, "Then do you worship instead of Allah that which does not benefit you at all or harm you? 66 “Disgrace be upon you and all the idols whom you worship instead of Allah; so do you not have sense?” 67 They said, 'Burn him, and help your gods, if you would do aught.' 68 But We said, "Fire! Be cool and a means of safety for Abraham." 69 They sought to outwit him, but We made them the worst of losers. 70 And We rescued him and Lut towards the land which We have blessed for the entire world. 71 And We bestowed him Ishaq, and Yaqub the grandson; and We made all of them worthy of Our proximity. 72 And We made them leaders guiding by Our command. And We inspired to them the doing of good deeds, establishment of prayer, and giving of zakah; and they were worshippers of Us. 73 And (remember) Lout (Lot), We gave him Hukman (right judgement of the affairs and Prophethood) and (religious) knowledge, and We saved him from the town (folk) who practised Al-Khaba'ith (evil, wicked and filthy deeds, etc.). Verily, they were a people given to evil, and were Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient, to Allah). 74 And We admitted him to Our Mercy: for he was one of the Righteous. 75
