Said the Council of the unbelievers of his people, who cried lies to the encounter of the world to come, and to whom We had given ease in the present' life, 'This is naught but a mortal like yourselves, who eats of what you eat and drinks of what you drink. 33 And if you should obey a man like yourselves, indeed, you would then be losers. 34 Does he promise you that when you die and have become dust and bones, that you will be brought forth again? 35 ۞ Away! away with that wherewith ye are promised; 36 There is only the life of this world: We die and we live: there is no rising from the dead for us. 37 He is nothing but a man who attributes his own lying inventions to God, and we are not going to believe him!" 38 (The apostle prayed): "O Lord, deliver me, for they accuse me of lies." 39 He said: In a little while they surely will become repentant. 40 So the punishment overtook them in justice, and We made them as rubbish; so away with the unjust people. 41 Then after them We brought forth other generations. 42 no nation outstrips its term, nor do they put it back. 43 then We sent Our messengers in succession. Every time their messenger came to a people, they rejected him. So We destroyed them one after the other, and let them become mere tales. So away with the people who will not believe! 44 Thereafter We sent Musa and his brother Harun with Our signs and an authority manifest. 45 unto Pharaoh and his great ones; but these behaved with arrogance, for they were people wont to glorify [only] themselves. 46 And so they said: "Shall we believe [them] two mortals like ourselves - although their people are our slaves?" 47 So they rejected them, calling them liars, and they too eventually became of those that were destroyed. 48 And We gave Moses the Book, in order that they might receive guidance. 49 And We made the son of Maryam (Mary) and his mother as a sign, And We gave them refuge on high ground, a place of rest, security and flowing streams. 50
