Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 and will be made to drink from a fiercely boiling spring. 5 There is no food for them except thorns of fire. 6 Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger. 7 (Other) faces, that Day, will be joyful, 8 With their endeavour well pleased. 9 in a sublime garden, 10 where they will hear no idle talk. 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 and prepared goblets, 14 Cushions arranged, 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 Then do they not look at the camels - how they are created? 17 And at the sky - how it is raised? 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 And how the earth was outstretched? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 you are not their keeper. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 To Us they will all return. 25 Then it will be for Us to call them to account. 26
