We gave Moses the Book and appointed his brother Aaron as his counsellor: 35 We told them, "Both of you go to the people who have rejected Our revelations." We completely destroyed these unbelievers. 36 We drowned the people of Noah because of their rejection of the Messengers and made them evidence of the Truth for mankind. We have prepared a painful torment for the unjust ones. 37 To each of the tribes of Ad, Thamud, the settlers around the well and many generations in between 38 and unto each of them did We proffer lessons and each of them did We destroy with utter destruction. 39 Surely they have come by the city that was rained on by an evil rain; what, have they not seen it? Nay, but they look for no upraising. 40 When these people see you, they scoff at you, (saying), "Is this the man whom Allah has sent as His Messenger? 41 Indeed, he would well-nigh have led us astray from our deities, had we not been [so] steadfastly attached to them!" When they behold the punishment, they shall realize who strayed furthest from the right path. 42 Have you considered him who takes his own lust for his god? Can you stand a surety for him? 43 Or deemest thou that most of them hear or understand? They are but as the cattle - nay, but they are farther astray? 44
