The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the sun and its midmorning, 1 and by the moon when she follows him, 2 By the Day as it shows up (the Sun's) glory; 3 And by the night as it conceals it (the sun); 4 The heavens and its architecture, 5 and by the earth and how He spread it, 6 The soul and how it was integrated 7 and inspired it to lewdness and godfearing! 8 prosperous is he who purified it, 9 and those who corrupt their souls will certainly be deprived (of happiness). 10 Samood gave the lie (to the truth) in their inordinacy, 11 When among them the great wretch arose, 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. 14 And He feared not the consequence thereof 15
