Alshu'araa' 2 of 11
Behold, thy Lord called Moses: "Go to the people of iniquity,- 10 the people of Pharaoh: do they have no fear?" 11 He said, "My Lord, indeed I fear that they will deny me 12 And that my breast will tighten and my tongue will not be fluent, so send for Aaron. 13 Moreover, they keep a grave charge [pending] against me, and I fear that they will slay me." 14 He said: Nay, verily. So go ye twain with Our tokens. Lo! We shall be with you, Hearing. 15 “Therefore approach Firaun then proclaim, ‘We both are Noble Messengers of the Lord Of The Creation.’ 16 [Commanded to say], "Send with us the Children of Israel."'" 17 Said Firaun, “Did we do not raise you amongst us, as a child? And you spent many years of your life among us!” 18 “And you committed the deed of yours that you committed, and you were ungrateful.” 19 Moses said, "I did do it and I made a mistake. 20 so I fled from you, fearing you. But my Lord gave me Judgment and made me one of the Envoys. 21 “And is this some great reward for which you express favour upon me – that you have enslaved the Descendants of Israel?” 22 Firon said: And what is the Lord of the worlds? 23 [Moses] answered: "[He is] the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them: if you would but [allow yourselves to] be convinced!" 24 The Pharaoh said to the people around him, "Did you hear that?" 25 [And Moses] continued: "[He is] your Sustainer, [too,] as well as the Sustainer of your forefathers of old!" 26 [Pharaoh] said, "Indeed, your 'messenger' who has been sent to you is mad." 27 Moses continued, "He is the Lord of the East and West and all that is between them, if only you would think". 28 Pharaoh said, "If you put forward any god other than me, I will surely put you in prison". 29 He said, 'What, even though I brought thee something so manifest?' 30 Pharaoh said: "Then bring it if you are truthful at all." 31 So Moosa put down his staff and it became a visible serpent. 32 and he drew his hand (out of his armpit) and lo! it had become a shining object to the beholders. 33
