And recite to them the news of Abraham, 69 When he said unto his father and his people: what worship ye? 70 They replied, "We worship idols and shall continue to worship them". 71 He asked, "Do they hear you when you call to them? 72 "Or do you good or harm?" 73 They replied, "But we found our fathers doing the same." 74 He said: 'Have you considered what you worship, 75 and what your grandfathers worshipped 76 Surely they are enemies to me, but not (so) the Lord of the worlds; 77 Who created me, and He doth guide me, 78 And He Who gives me to eat and gives me to drink: 79 and Who, when I am ill, heals me; 80 Who will cause me to die and then will again restore me to life; 81 And who I aspire that He will forgive me my sin on the Day of Recompense." 82 (And then Abraham prayed): "My Lord, endow me with knowledge and wisdom and join me with the righteous, 83 and grant me an honourable reputation among posterity, 84 And make me of the heirs of the garden of bliss 85 And forgive my father. Indeed, he has been of those astray. 86 Degrade me not upon the day when they are raised up, 87 “The day when neither wealth will benefit nor will sons.” 88 but only he that brings to Allah a sound heart will (attain to success)." 89 and Paradise shall be brought forward to the cautious. 90 And Hellfire will be brought forth for the deviators, 91 And it shall be said to them: Where are those that you used to worship; 92 “Instead of Allah? Will they help you or retaliate?” 93 They will then be thrown into Hell with those who had gone astray 94 And the hosts of Iblis, together. 95 There they will quarrel with one another and the erring ones will say (to their deities): 96 By Allah, of a truth we were in error manifest 97 when we deemed you [false deities] equal to the Sustainer of all the worlds 98 "'And our seducers were only those who were steeped in guilt. 99 So now we have no intercessors 100 no loyal friend. 101 Would that we might return again, and be among the believers' 102 Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 103 Surely, Your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
