And recite to them the news of Abraham. 69 When he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said, "We worship idols and remain to them devoted." 71 He said: Do they hear you when ye cry? 72 or benefit you or do you harm?" 73 They said: Nay, but we found our fathers acting on this wise. 74 He said: See now that which ye worship, 75 and what your grandfathers worshipped 76 They are enemies to me except the Lord of all the Worlds 77 who created me; and He guides me, 78 And it is He who feeds me and gives me drink. 79 And heals me when I am sick, 80 "Who will cause me to die, and then to life (again); 81 And who, I hope, will condone my faults on the Day of Judgement. 82 "O my Lord! bestow wisdom on me, and join me with the righteous; 83 And appoint for me an honourable mention among the posterity 84 and place me amongst the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss. 85 and forgive my father, for he is one of those astray. 86 and do not put me to shame on the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 87 "The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 [and when] only he [will be happy] who comes before God with a heart free of evil!" 89 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 90 And hell will be revealed for the astray. 91 and they will be asked: "Where now is all that you were wont to worship 92 besides God? Will the idols help you? Can they help themselves?" 93 Then the idols and those who strayed will be hurled into the Fire headlong, one upon another, 94 And the hosts of the Shaitan, all. 95 They shall say, as they dispute there one with another, 96 "By God, we were most obviously astray 97 When we made you equal to the Lord of the worlds; 98 And no one misguided us except the criminals. 99 Now we have none to intercede for us, 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 “So if only were we to go back, in order to become Muslims!” 102 Verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 103 Verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 104
