And recite to them the tiding of Abraham 69 When he said to his father and his people: What do you worship? 70 They said: we worship idols, and we are unto them ever devoted 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 "Or do you good or harm?" 73 They exclaimed: But we found our forefathers doing the same!" 74 He said: See now that which ye worship, 75 and what your grandfathers worshipped 76 Indeed, they are enemies to me, except the Lord of the worlds, 77 "Who has created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 And heals me when I am sick, 80 And He Who will cause me to die, then give me life; 81 And who, I hope, will condone my faults on the Day of Judgement. 82 "O my Lord! bestow wisdom on me, and join me with the righteous; 83 Make my words come true in the future. 84 and place me among those who shall inherit the garden of bliss! 85 "And forgive my father - for, verily, he is among those who have gone astray 86 And disgrace me not on the Day when (all the creatures) will be resurrected; 87 “The day when neither wealth will benefit nor will sons.” 88 [and when] only he [will be happy] who comes before God with a heart free of evil!" 89 And the garden shall be brought near for those who guard (against evil), 90 And Hellfire will be brought forth for the deviators, 91 And it will be said to them: "Where are those (the false gods whom you used to set up as rivals with Allah) that you used to worship 92 beside Allah? Can they be of any help to you, or even be of any help to themselves?" 93 Then will they be hurled therein, they and the seducers 94 and so too the hosts of Iblis, all of them. 95 They will say while they dispute therein, 96 they will say, "By God, we were in clear error 97 "'When we held you as equals with the Lord of the Worlds; 98 It is none but those steeped in guilt who led us into this error, 99 So now we have no intercessors 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 "'Now if we only had a chance of return we shall truly be of those who believe!'" 102 Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 103 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
