(The tribe of) A'ad denied the messengers (of Allah). 123 When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 124 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 125 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 126 I ask no recompense of you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 127 What, you build a monument on every hill merely for fun 128 Erect palaces (thinking) that you will live for ever, 129 And when you strike, you strike as tyrants. 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 "Yea, fear Him Who has bestowed on you freely all that ye know. 132 Who has provided you with flocks and children 133 “And with gardens and water-springs.” 134 "Truly I fear for you the Penalty of a Great Day." 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether you preach or be not of those who preach. 136 That is nothing but a habit of the ancients, 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 And they denied him; therefor We destroyed them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 140
