Ad cried lies to the Envoys 123 Recall, when their brother Hud said to them: "Have you no fear? 124 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust: 125 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 127 "Do you build useless monuments on every mountain 128 and do you take to you castles, haply to dwell forever? 129 “And when you apprehend someone, you seize him mercilessly?” 130 Rather keep your duty to Allah, and obey me. 131 fear Him who has aided you with all that you know -- 132 "He has aided you with cattle and children. 133 And gardens and watersprings. 134 I fear for you the chastisement of an Awesome Day." 135 They replied: "It is all the same for us whether you admonish us or not. 136 "This is no other than a customary device of the ancients, 137 And we are not to be punished." 138 So they cried him lies; then We destroyed them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 140
