(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 124 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 125 "So fear Allah and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no hire therefor: my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 127 "Do you build high palaces on every high place, while you do not live in them? 128 And you make strong fortresses that perhaps you may 129 And when you lay hands (on men) you lay hands (like) tyrants; 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 Keep your duty toward Him Who hath aided you with (the good things) that ye know, 132 Hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 and with gardens and springs. 134 Verily I fear for you the torment of a Mighty Day. 135 They said, 'Alike it is to us, whether thou admonishest, or art not one of the admonishers; 136 This [religion of ours] is none other than that to which our forebears clung, 137 And we shall not be doomed. 138 So they rejected him; and We destroyed them. There is certainly a sign in that; but most of them would not believe. 139 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
