The tribe of Ad rejected the Messengers. 123 Recall, when their brother Hud said to them: "Have you no fear? 124 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you; 125 Have fear of God and obey me. 126 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 127 "Do ye build a landmark on every high place to amuse yourselves? 128 and make for yourselves mighty castles, [hoping] that you might become immortal? 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants. 130 "Be, then, conscious of God and pay heed unto me: 131 Have fear of Him Who has provided you with all the (good) things you know; 132 He has given you cattle, children, 133 And gardens and springs. 134 "Verily, I fear for you the torment of a Great Day." 135 They replied: "It is all the same for us whether you admonish us or not. 136 That is nothing but a habit of the ancients, 137 We will not be subjected to any chastisement." 138 So they belied him, so We destroyed them. Surely, in that there is a sign; yet most of them do not believe. 139 Verily your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 140
