The Thamud belied the sent ones 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 144 And I ask of you no hire therefor; MY hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 145 Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] -- 146 among gardens and fountains, 147 And green crops (fields etc.) and date-palms with soft spadix. 148 You hew dwellings in mountains and exult in that. 149 So fear God and obey me: 150 "And follow not the command of Al-Musrifun [i.e. their chiefs, leaders who were polytheists, criminals and sinners], 151 “Those who spread turmoil in the earth, and do no reform.” 152 They said: You are only of the deluded ones; 153 thou art naught but a mortal, like us; then produce a sign, if thou art one of the truthful.' 154 Replied he: "This she-camel shall have a share of water, and you shall have a share of water, on the days appointed [therefor]; 155 And touch her not with ill lest there come on you the retribution of an awful day. 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and then they became regretful: 157 So the chastisement seized them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 158 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 159
