The Thamud accused the messengers of lies. 141 when their brother Salih said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 142 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 143 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 “Will you be left peacefully in these favours over here?” 146 In gardens and springs. 147 And fields of crops and palm trees with softened fruit? 148 And hew ye out houses in the mountains skilfully! 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 “And do not follow those who exceed the limits.” 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and mend not (their ways)." 152 They said, "You are only of those affected by magic. 153 Thou art but a human being like unto us. So bring thou a sign if thou art of the truth-tellers. 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. She will have her share of water as you have your share, each on a certain day. 155 And do not touch her with evil, lest the punishment of a grievous day should overtake you. 156 They slew the she-camel, but later became regretful 157 So the chastisement seized them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 158 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 159
