He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 you attend to him, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and in awe [of God] 9 You neglect. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 How We pour water in showers 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
